Part 4
"Hold that thought."
Wil flashed a grin at Paul and then when out to answer the front door. Paul slid off the bench, grabbed his beer, and then headed into the living room.
"Wil who is it?"
Wil didn't respond, he was standing by the now open front door staring at whoever was on the other side. He moved out of the way and allowed the person to enter the apartment, and Paul was very surprised to see who it was.
"Corinne, what are you doing here?"
"I came to talk to Wil."
"Oh right, of course. Um, I'll leave you two alone."
Paul shot a quick glance at Wil, but Wil's eyes were fixed solely on Corinne. Paul sighed and headed back into his studio again, leaving the two of them alone.
Wil walked over and perched himself on the edge of the couch, looking up at Corinne.
"So what brings you to Sydney?"
"I needed to see you. We need to talk."
"I thought we'd done all the talking we needed to. You made it pretty clear that there wasn't room in your life for me."
"I made a mistake Wil and I'm sorry. I still want you in my life, you're one of my best friends and you always will be. I'd like to think our friendship is strong enough to get through this."
Wil sighed. He knew that Corinne was right. They'd been friends for a long time before they'd started their sexual relationship, and Wil couldn't imagine his life without her in it. He got back to his feet and walked over to.
"You're right. And I do still want you as a friend."
Corinne smiled and wrapped her arms around Wil's waist, hugging him. It was at that moment Paul chose to walk back into the room.
"So you two back together now huh?"
"No, not like that."
"Oh well, none of my business anyway."
"What's with you today Paul? Wake up on the wrong side of the bed?"
"You should remember about that Corinne."
Paul regretted those words as soon as they'd left his mouth. He looked at Wil, praying that by some miracle he hadn't understood what Paul had just said. But he understood well, and Paul didn't like the look on his face.
"What the fuck did you mean by that Paul?"
"Nothing, I was just kidding."
"Like hell you were. You told me nothing had ever happened between you and Corinne, obviously you lied to me."
Corinne placed a hand on Wil's arm.
"It was just sex Wil, nothing more. It wasn't while we were together."
Paul shot a glance at Corinne this time, wishing she would stop talking before she got them into even more trouble. Wil looked back and forth between Paul and Corinne, not knowing what to say to either of them. He was glad Corinne had showed up when she did, before he'd made a big mistake with Paul.
"I've got to get out of here."
Paul took a step forward.
"Wil, please don't go.."
Wil looked right at Paul and their eyes met, and Paul felt his heart break at what he saw there. He knew that once again things between he and Wil had changed, but this time it definitely wasn't for the better.
"I can't be around you right now Paul, I just can't."
Wil turned and headed out of the apartment once more, leaving Paul standing there almost crying and Corinne confused about what was going on with Paul and Wil that she didn't know about. Paul just looked at Corinne for a moment and then shook his head, walking into the bedroom and collapsing onto the bed, letting the tears freely flow.
