Part 8
Corinne sat staring at Rove, wondering exactly what he meant, but he simply smiled reassuringly at her.
”You want a drink?”
“Yes please that’d be nice.”
”Okay wait here, I’ll be right back.”
Rove kissed Corinne on the cheek and flashed her another grin before running back to the table. Amanda, Rhys, Tanya and Mark all looked up at him.
“Okay this might work after all. Where’s Wil?”
“Talking to the DJ. You sure we picked the right song?”
Rove smiled.
“Well I did suggest ‘Throw Your Arms Around Me’ but no one seemed to be too keen on that one?”
Rhys laughed.
“Well that’s cause Paul would have had a nervous breakdown if he heard that played again.”
They were all laughing just as Wil arrived back at the table. They all looked at him waiting to hear the news.
“Okay its all set. We just have to get them out there.”
As soon as he said that Wil shot a glance at Rove and they exchanged a grin. They look at the others and nodded, saying the same thing at the same time.
”Not a problem.”
Rove headed back to where Corinne was waiting.
”Where’s my drink?”
”Oh damn sorry I forgot.”
”What the hell were you doing?”
“Sorry I ran into Wil and um, got distracted. You feel like dancing?”
Corinne sighed.
”No not really.”
”Aww come on, this is a great song.”
Rove flashed his puppy dog face at Corinne and she couldn’t resist. She smiled at him.
”Alright.”
Rove grinned back and took her hand, leading her out onto the dance floor.
**
“Come on Paul!”
“Sorry Wil I don’t really feel like dancing right now. And knowing my luck Corinne would see us and think I was sleeping with you or something.”
”In my dreams.”
Paul looked up and Wil wiggled his eyebrows at him, causing Paul to laugh.
“Fine you win.”
Wil grinned and grabbed Paul’s hand, leading him out onto the dance floor. As soon as they got there Paul saw Rove and Corinne nearby, and felt a twinge of jealousy run through his body, wishing he was the one dancing with her. Corinne looked over and their eyes locked for a moment, before she quickly turned away.
A few minutes later Paul and Corinne both stopped dancing when a new slower song began to play.
Look into my eyes and you will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart
Search your soul
And when you find me there
You’ll search no more
Rove and Wil left the dance floor, leaving Paul and Corinne standing a few feet apart just staring at each other.
Don’t tell me it’s not worth trying for
You can’t tell me it’s not worth dying for
You know it’s true
Everything I do
I do it for you
They both took a step forward and drifted into each other’s arms. They exchanged a smile as they wrapped their arms around each other and danced slowly, losing themselves in the music and knowing how much meaning the words had as well.
Look into my heart and you will find
There’s nothing there to hide
Take me as I am
Take my life
I would give it up
I would sacrifice
Don’t tell me it’s not worth fighting for
I can’t help it there’s nothing I want more
Back at the table, the others were all just sitting there staring at the dance floor, transfixed by Paul and Corinne and especially by how perfect they looked together.
Paul wrapped his arms tighter around Corinne’s waist, holding her closer to him as he sang the last chorus softly to her.
You know it’s true
Everything I do
I do it for you
As Paul sang the last words, Corinne slid one arm around the back of his head and pulled his head down. Any doubts about how they felt about each other were quickly erased as their lips met in a tender and passionate kiss. Paul eventually pulled away and smiled.
“I love you.”
Corinne smiled back.
“I love you too.”
They look over towards the group at the table who continued staring at them with smiles on their faces. Paul and Corinne nodded thanks and then turned and walked hand-in-hand out of the nightclub.
The End.
