Regrets
Paul sat on the soft sand of the beach, gazing out across the water. His long dreadlocked hair pulled back into a tight ponytail as always. He had only been back in Australia for a few weeks, and hed hardly left his Melbourne apartment. Hed been a while hanging around England following the break-up, but he missed Australia too much.
So here he sat. Staring out at the water, a slight breeze blowing across him at the same time as the sun beat down on his bare back. He wondered whether he should just go back to his apartment and paint, but he had been doing that almost every day for the last couple of weeks.
He got to his feet, dusting the sand from his black shorts. He made his way along the shoreline of the beach, his bare feet sinking into the wet sand as he walked. He was staring at his feet, but at one point he felt the need to look up, and he saw a man walking in the opposite direction. He knew instantly who it was.
Paul continued walking along the beach, stopping when he was just meters away from the other man, they were staring at each other.
Hi Paul.
The silence was broken.
Hi Tim. What are you doing here?
Looking for you actually.
Why?
Paul please dont make this harder than it is.
What would you like Tim? For me to just fall into your arms again? Well Im sorry Tim, but you made your choice, and you have to live with it.
Paul turned and walked away up the beach, not looking back. Tim watched him leave with tears of regret running down his face.
Paul was right, hed made the choice. It was only now that he realized that it had been the wrong one, and he had to live with the fact that he had lost the love of his life.
