Part 19

Pauls Point of View

I woke to the sound of a garbage truck moving its way slowly down the street. Nicole was still fast asleep next to me and Randy had obviously left the room before we woke up. He always got embarassed about feeling the need to curl up on our floor. I got out of bed and quietly made my way down the hall to the kitchen where i turned on the kettle to make my usual morning coffee when i spotted a brief not on the table next to the phone. I moved quickly over to read it and once id red it through 3 times... it floated to the ground. I was... i dont know. I didnt know what to do. First my daughter and now... now my son was gone too.

"Nicole!!!!!!" i called once i gathered my thoughts and she came running up the hall way.

"Whats wrong... Have they found her?"

I handed her the letter and as she read it, i noticed the colour drain from her face and she too, let the letter drop from her hand, only she fell to the floor with it. I moved her onto the couch whilst she slowly regained consciousness and called Sargent Noble.

"Mr. McDermott whats the matter?"

"Sargent Noble... Randy has gone... he says he has gone to find Steph and that he knows where she is!!!"

"Oh god... i thought this might happen... Im on my way over. Get dressed and wait for me."

"But..."

"Ill be there soon" he said and hung up the phone.

My poor boy... Too young to be out in the world alone. I could only hope that where ever he was headed, he found a safe way to get there. Lord knows what kind of mad people dominate the world today. What would i do if anything happened to him... and to my Stephanie...

I was raised to believe in god... though my faith deminished to nothing over the years. But the day when my children were gone... was the day i prayed to god for their protection. The day i wished that my parents were right about gods existance.
