Part 2
Elizabeth gasped to herself, but she did not run away from the howls. In fact, she began wandering towards them. She felt compelled to see them, to be faced with them. Why, she did not know it seemingly had nothing to do with the death of her mother Something to do with the howling, something familiar. She couldn't understand. She was not frightened her heart beat hadn't increased the slightest bit, in fact she was as calm as she'd ever been if not more so. She seemed, almost in a trance some how. Snow began to fall and settled on the ground quickly and it was not long before her footprints were visible. The howling continued as she moved deeper and deeper into the forest, following the sounds of the hypnotizing howls that echoed through the trees.
Finally, after what seemed like an hour but only a second, she arrived at a clearing. The wolves gathered in a circle around a large boulder and on top of it, a large old wolf sat, and looked directly in to her eyes.
'Hello' She whispered though she did not know why exactly. They were wolves and couldn't possibly understand. Or could they? The pack leader, as she assumed him to be bowed his head in greeting and the other wolves seemed to follow. She was confused to say the least.
'I'm hungry' She said more to herself than anyone and sat by the tree nearest to her, not at all concerned by the company in which she was keeping. She felt completely at ease with them. She watched them, followed one with her eyes that disappeared into the trees and emerged with something in its mouth.
'berries! But how'
She asked, but received no answer. In fact she didn't feel an answer necessary, she simply began eating the berries whilst the stunning creatures gathered around her and lay to sleep. Tiredness swept over her quickly and she too lay her head down into the soft coat of the creature nearest. A small sigh escaped her lips as the dozed into slumber, the last thing her eyes concentrated on was the pack leader, bowing his head to her once more before disappearing.
