Part 25
"Nurse why cant he talk?"
"Well Nicole... Paul suffered some damage to his larynx. We are unsure of the seriousness as yet and cant tell you if his ability to talk will actually return. If it does it is likely that he wont be able to sing. Im sorry"
Oh my god poor Paul... His life was singing. What would he do with out it?
These thoughts and more were filling my head and i didnt notice Paul making some horrible gurgle pointing to the water jug. I got him a drink and apologised for not being able to stay. I didnt know where to go or who to talk to but i ended up back at Richards and he calmed me down. When i told him what the nurse had said he went bright white and was as speechless as me.
We spent alot of time together in the days to follow and becameg good friends. Paul's speech did improve and within 4 days he was able to make out some small words. Randy was great... he'd sit there and read books to him. Course he couldnt read, he'd look at the pictures and say what he thought they were talking about. Paul started to smile a bit more and the pain of talking became a little less every day. It was so hard wanting to talk with him but not being able to as his conversation ability was no more than 3 words at a time.
And the nurse wasnt even sure how much better he'd get.
