Part 10

Mum stared blankly at the TV and tears started to stream her face. Dad looked at me and at her, but non of us spoke. Nothing needed to be said, we all had the same thought and non of us were optimistic enough to try and put hope into the situation.

After what seemed like half an hour, but was only 30 seconds Dad stood and left the room. I knew where he was going, and this time... for the first time ever, i followed him and so did mum. We all sat on Stephs bed and cried in eachothers arms for the longest time. We probably wouldnt have moved had the phone not rang. We all bolted to the kitchen and listened to mum answer the call.

"Hello... yes... yes we did. yes officer right away. Thankyou" She hung up the phone and her face lost all colour it had, which wasnt much given the events of the past few days.

"We have to go down and look at the body. Just to be sure its... its... Oh god!!!" And at that point the fell to her knees and cried more. We cried more for about half an hour and Mum suddenly stood, straitened herself up and started to get ready.

"Come on... we've got to meet sargent Noble at the..."

"I know mum" i interupted before she could break down again. I noticed that Dad didnt seem to say anything at all. Just looked pale with dark circles around his eyes. He looked like he hadnt slept in days... probably hadnt.

We got dressed and went to meet Sargent Noble and he greeted us with a sympathetic smile.

"Hello again. Im sorry we have to meet under such sad circumstances"

"Cut the crap and let us see our daughter!" Dad shouted.. the first thing id heard him say in... i dont know. But the sargent wasnt insulted. He just looked more sad for us and led the way without another word. He took us to a room that felt very cold and there was a wall covered with large drawers, assumingly holding more bodies.
There were 4 tables, all covered with black plastic sheeting. I was more curious to see who was under the others, as opposed to the table he was leading us to.

There was a pair of feet poking out from under the sheet, pale blue... lifeless. I began to shake noticibly and mum put her arms around me. Sargent Noble placed his hands on the edge of the plastic and looked at us.

"This might be a little bit of a shock. Its hard to see your children, or anyone you love... in... Ill let you see"

He removed the sheet half way down... and i waited for mum to cry
