Part 11

He pulled the sheet slowly, exposing a matt of long dark hair that lay over the cold steel bench in a fan like patturn. Her skin was pale, blue and it looked like it would feel like ice if we were to touch it. Her eyes were open, staring at the ceiling. They looked so lifeless, so blank. Void of emotion, feeling, personality. If the eyes are the window to the soul, i was looking into an empty room. It made me feel like crying, but i had cried so much that i had no tears left.

Mum and Dad looked at her, no expression on their face. Not even a hint of emotion. Nothing. It was like staring at 2 zombies. Dead yet standing due to some unexplainable force. The officer slowly covered up the body and moved over to us.

"Im sorry Mr and Mrs Mcdermott... would you like to sign the papers now?"

"Its not her." Dad said and Sargent Noble looked at him puzzled.

"Mr McDermott i know these times can be tough but lying to yourself isnt going to do anything"

"Im telling you its not her. Thats not my Steph"

"He's right sir... thats not my sister. Looks a bit like her but its not. I dont know who that is"

The whole time mum just stood there stunned, staring directly at the figure under the sheet.

"Well.... this certainly puts a hold on things then doesnt it. Im terrible sorry i had to get you down here for no reason."

"Oh but there is reason. We know not that my little girl is still out there somewhere with that psychomaniac insensetive rude insulting uncaring heartless brainless SLUT!"

"MUM!" i cried, not so much to stop her from bagging out Julie, i thought the same thing, well.. not exactly the same thing... More so to stop her from getting herself into some sort of state she goes into sometimes.

We still had to fill in some paper work, but it was only about 10 minutes before we were home and If you have a glass, is it half empty or half full?

i was back in bed. Images of that girl filled my thoughts. How did she die, who killed her, what was her family like, what was she like. She looked so pretty even if she was dead. She looked like the type of person everyone would like. As i drifted into sleep my thoughts wandered off that girl on the cold steel table to my sister. She was still out there somewhere. Somewhere.
